The Good Earth Church of the Divine declares itself a Just Peace Church in alignment with the affirmations of its parent denomination.“Affirming the United Church of Christ to be a Just Peace Church, ”that occured in 1981 by resolution of its National Synod. Adopting this Declaration as a Just Peace Church means for our Interfaith community that: Just Peace is defined as Shalom, with interrelations of friendship, justice and common security from violence, linking peace with justice.
Making peace and doing justice are tasks given to us by God in the vision of a great Shalom. A new way of acting is needed to move church language beyond pacifism, any so-called Just War, or Crusader thinking.
Our parent body, the United Church of Christ is in opposition to the INSTITUTION of war and to the doctrine of nuclear deterrence. We adopt this stance that all humans have a right to have basic human needs met, including food, healthcare, housing, employment and education.
The struggle for Just Peace needs to be seen from and learn from, the perspective of real peoples who are in the struggle for liberation.
We are URGENTLY called by GOD as people of all faith bodies to heal human and environmental relations.
